What's going to happen with MDScene right now

Post by Oerg866 »

Hi,

regarding the state of the server, it is uncertain what lies in the near future.

However, I am currently working on revamping everything to work better. Since the old hardware died, I must get new one ASAP.

The emergency server is currently running well on the same machine that used to only host the minecraft server.

The configuration is very simple, as follows:

ASRock 760GM-GS3
AMD Athlon II X2 240 (2x2.80GHZ)
Corsair ValueSelect 4GB kit (DDR3-1333) -- ironically, that's 4x the RAM amount of the old server LOL
Fujitsu MHV2060BH 60GB 2.5" SATA 5400RPM drive (very VERY slow drive, but it works)

That's basically it.

As this configuration is very simple, insecure and provides no redundance at all (the board is very very cheap and flimsy), I want to change the configuration somewhat.

I am soon (in a week or so) going to aquire some components of my old PC back:

MSI KA790GX (One of the rather more high end AM2+ boards)
AMD Phenom (first gen) X3 8650 triple core

I also acquired two PCI IDE controllers, which I'm probably going to use to make a system with 6 or 8 HDDs in it, in a RAID. That means we'll have more space, and more data safety.

The system drive will be a high performance Ultra320 SCSI drive with 10000RPMs.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

For the record, people shouldn't try to upload new avatars right now, as it turns out that there is a problem with a directory permission. Oerg just needs to perform a CHMOD command on that directory so it's a very simple fix.

I don't think mentioning that before it's fixed is a good idea...
Sik is pronounced like "seek", not like "sick".

I mentioned it because someone tried to upload an avatar, so I noticed that this problem exists.
I would agree with your concern if this was the opposite case, with CHMODs 777 all over the place, but this is a case of a directory that needs to be more public or the avatar uploader will always fail.
