Looking for 4-op patches

Post by vampirefrog »

Hello. Please post links to any 4-op FM patch collections, in any format.

So far I've found syx patches for Yamaha DX-11, DX-21, TX81Z, FB-01, the Mega Drive .OPM file collection (extracted from project2612 VGMs), and some other bullshit.

I am particularly looking for the OPL/2/3 default patches that come with windows.

My target is YM2151, so I guess I'll have to exclude the stuff with unusual waveforms, but that's ok.

OPL3 patches will most likely be quite useless for your purpose… Of the four 4-op algorithms the OPL3 has, only two exist on the OPM/OPN (which has eight algorithms). And the OPL3 has 8 waveforms, while the OPM/OPN has only one. Only a few patches will be convertible, I think. OPL is 2-op and has only one waveform, those should be convertible. OPL2 is only different from the OPL by adding a 2nd waveform, so those are not convertible (otherwise it would be an OPL patch).

Where the OPM/OPN created synthesis depth through operator algorithms, the OPL2/3 provided that depth through waveforms. For me that’s the best definition of the different philosophy between the OPM/OPN and OPL. Note that two of the four OPL3 4-op algorithms can also be produced by two 2-op channels, so yeah, it’s quite useless in that regard.

Here are two packs of most MD game instruments in unnamed .tfi format, as well as what I think was the default set for shiru's VGM MM tracker: https://ufile.io/deice

My WIP YM2151 pack: https://ufile.io/sq45z

Some tools have flaws leading to wrong dt2 and dt1 values, seems only the. opm file instruments have the right ones. vopmxtfi converted instruments seem to keep dt1 values but not dt2. So I started collecting opm files recently using hoot vr but can't do it for any of the packs I got from this site.

Thank you mister Nguyen. Do these patches have names?

In fact, I might as well mention that I am looking mostly for NAMED patches.

In particular, I believe development kits or documentation for sound drivers might contain named voices. For example, Z-MuSiC on the X68000 has a PCM sample library, and all the samples are named. I'm looking for similar, but with OPM voices. Perhaps there was documentation for GEMS or SMPS? Perhaps on the computers?

Also: where dat fart bass?

This program comes with a bunch of named patches (in .INS format). I believe they can be opened with VGM Music Maker and some other tools.

Edit:

GEMS comes with some default voices, but i'm not sure why you would want them. After all, they caused US games to get a reputation for having shitty sound :P

The only SMPS documentation/source code we have is for the Pico, which does not have an FM chip so no FM patches.

Thanks, these look good.

You can find the GEMS development kit here. You can also look at the Sega Channel code dump for more GEMS patches.

As with the Windows OPL presets, refer to the General MIDI spec for the relevant patch names according to their patch number.

Not sure how many of these are 4op (FB01 and TX81Z are i guess) but here-s a collection of factory prssets for various Yamaha FM synths.

Also while not 4op, here's the hard to find PLG100/150-DX factory presets salvaged from a supposed rip from the DX200 CD.
converted to DX7 SYX: https://www.dropbox.com/s/f6w8so1fwgjau ... p.zip?dl=0

original: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kv878tk2z98kn ... r.zip?dl=0

Finally, re: windows opl3, here are the patch banks of interest (fat2 in particular): https://github.com/bisqwit/adlmidi/tree ... /op3_files. as always, follow GM spec instrument patch map for names.

Hello again. I am looking at 2612org OPMs.zip and the guy mentions vgm2opm, but I can't find vgm2opm anywhere, I've looked on shiru's site and google as well, and it seems to be missing. I'm also curious about its source. Does anyone have it? Thanks.
