Happy ½ anniversary, vgmrips!

Post by Tom »

As you can tell from my registration date, vgmrips was officially founded 6 months ago.

We have to celebrate! :party2:
Therefore, on saturday 2012-06-02, we'll be having an e-party in our official IRC channel, trying to take in account the various timezones of our userbase (probably night for europeans, afternoon for americans, sunday for asians).

There will also be a surprise (if I manage to pull it off; I found a new job yesterday, right in time to mess up with the organisation of this thing).
:disco:

For now, let's just say happy birthday to eachother :D

i think the unofficial official term for such a thing is "half-birthday."

it's a good thing i found out abt this site; i wouldn't have gotten off of my ass to finally do the vgmtool update i was planning otherwise!

Just to remind you, later today there will be a *special event* in the IRC channel, so make sure to be there ;)

Hopefully that time will be suitable for most people, from Brasil to Japan.

Brasil in english is with Z not with S (you are good in learning portuguese!) Anyway, I like surprises!

I know it's with Z officially, I just like to preserve original names when they're similar to their English equivalents ;)

Brasil is ok, Deutschland and 日本国 are a bit too different instead :ihih:

And yes, I am from Italia :P

I'm not sure yet; I'll be in the IRC channel later, and I'll wait until there are several people.

Roughly, at least 2 or 3 hours from now.

By the way, make sure you're connecting from a computer, I'm not sure if a mobile device would be suitable.

Aaaaaaand it's over. For those who missed it (and many people missed it since there were only 4 listeners), I hosted a podcast of vgm songs. A quick introduction with songs from our "older brothers" (one from the Game Gear (ripped by me), one from the Master System, one from the Genesis (ripped by 2ch-H), one from the Sega CD (ripped by ValleyBell)), and then a selection of our songs chosen by ValleyBell and me. All of this, with Microsoft Anna talking for me since I didn't feel like plugging my microphone :ihih:
And yes, you can install Anna on XP with a patch ;)

The playlist:
  1. Anna: "Hello. As you all know, the vgm format was invented on sms power in 2001. Back then, it focused on the Sega Game Gear and the Sega Master System, so most of the songs used the sn76496 chip, such as this one..."
  2. Sonic Triple Trouble (Game Gear) - Sunset Park Zone Act 3
  3. Anna: "The ym2413 chip, used in the Japanese Master System, was supported as well..."
  4. Sega Master System BIOS - Space Harrier Main Theme demo
  5. Anna: "Later, the guys from project 2612 decided to use vgm as the official format for Sega Mega Drive and Sega Genesis games, obsoleting the similar format gym..."
  6. Snow Bros (Genesis) - Stage Theme 7
  7. Anna: "In 2009, a great scener named ValleyBell, started to add support for a lot of other sound chips to the vgm format. Thanks to him, we could get the first logs of Sega CD music for the first time..."
  8. Sonic CD - Wacky Workbench Zone Past
  9. Anna: "The sega CD was only the top of the iceberg, as ValleyBell added support for many many other chips in the following months, and he's still actively developing it. Thanks, ValleyBell. You are awesome."
  10. Sonic Pocket Adventure - Special Stage
  11. Bubble Bobble - Introduction ~ Main Theme
  12. Outrun (2151) - Magical Sound Shower
  13. Sonyc (2413) - Forest
  14. Puzzle De Pon (Neo Geo) - Last Stage
  15. Super Street Fighter 2 (QSound) - Ken Stage I
  16. Outrun (HuC6280) - Splash Wave
  17. Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars (2151) - World of Make Believe
  18. Sonic Pocket Adventure - Cosmic Casino Zone Act 1
  19. Tetris (Atari) - Bradinsky
  20. Rainbow Islands (2151) - [FAIRLY LAND STORY] BGM
  21. Super Street Fighter 2 (QSound) - Cammy Stage I
  22. Speedy Gonzáles (Game Boy) - Ice Cheese
  23. Lemmings (DOS) - Tim7
  24. Fatal Fury (Neo Geo) - Sea Knows (Michael Max Theme)
  25. Outrun (2151) - Last Wave
  26. Anna: "I hope you liked this podcast. Thanks for listening!"
There might be another podcast eventually. Or not. I'm not very happy about how it turned out, I hoped there could be more listeners. Also, a cute girl wanted to go to the cinema with me tonight and I said no because I wanted to celebrate vgmrips' half-birthday :(
