Sega Master System (model 1) Sega Master System is an 8-bit video game console released in 1986 by Tonka Corporation, under license from Sega of Japan. Initially called the Sega Base System, it is a re-branded version of the Sega Mark III for North America and Europe.

Launch titles Japan

Sound

The sound is generated by SN76489, the same chip from the SG-1000 and Sega Mark III. Japanese and South Korean models have the FM Sound Unit integrated onto the PCB, leaving the expansion slot free to connect the SK-1100. However, it was not included on North American and European systems. Some games which were not released in Japan (but some released in South Korea) support the FM sound without any modifications.
