We need a new domain host!

Post by Oerg866 »

Hi,

our current domain provider is inwx.de (interNetworX). The domain expires in August. Since I'm not very impressed with the quality and configurability of this domain provider, I'm looking for a new one. I'm very open to suggestions as I actually want the domain to work like I want to. The current one is retarded and won't let me assign anything to mdscene.net without any subdomain attached to it. Right now it's just a HTTP redirect.

So um... Where do I go to? :S

Cheers

MANY ppl have recommended dreamhost, and I personally intend to transfer my domain there as well.

I'm starting to agree. None of the downloads are working today, and it took me around 10 minutes just for this reply box to load.

We might be getting DDOSed. I'm trying to get this fixed ASAP.... And by domain host i just need to have a new DNS provider. The server is and will always be hosted by myself and my friend kokkie.

I find that the server is quite stable since the last real downtime.
There was this slowdown between 0:00 AM and 6:00 AM at one day, where the server can't seem to handle all requests, which can indeed be a DDoS attack, but the server works fine in general.

Or could be those Chinese spambots that keep trying to use the server to send spam e-mails... Don't underestimate their ability to overload the system.

Alright,

I've checked. There was a bug in apache apparently. It used ~500MB of memory (which is... um... fuck?) Now it's down to like 32, and it should work fine again. Of course, if I have any money leftover in a few weeks from now, I'll try to build a new server ....

Cheers

EDIT:

Can anyone who knows about this stuff tell me what this could be? This is a screenshot from the SMTP server log:
