Valley Bell's VGM Thread

for all sorts of homebrew VGMs

Original compositions, as well as ports and remixes of existing songs, can be posted in this forum, as long as they are in VGM format of course.

Ah, I thought about converting a song for Christmas, but in the end I didn't. This one is good, nice work.

Also, YM2151? :O

Nothing too special. I just modified my mid2vgm OPLL converter to output YM2151 frequency and note on/off commands. The (only) instrument comes from OutRun's Last Wave song.

And no, currently I don't plan to write a mid2vgm OPM (YM2151) converter. (Just in case anyone wants to ask.)

I wanted to make one, but I didn't know where to find instruments for it.

Woah, "The Neverending Story" sure brings a smile. Awesome rendition!
I really liked "Bonus Zone" too, great job! It's delightfully bright & happy. :D I've never heard of that sound chip before, but I see it's one used in the NeoGeo Pocket, cool.

Thanks.
btw: The arpeggios of the Bonus Zone tune were inspired by Sonic 1 SMS' Bridge Zone music, if I remember correctly.

Here's my newest creation: Aladdin Boss Theme
I first made a mod2mid of the Amiga (and PC/DOS) version of the song and then wrote a Data East music file with Hex Workshop.

It's VGM time: This time all songs are mid2smps (YM2612 + SN76489). The last three songs and were done by request.

I... can't believe that the last one is smps :omg:
It is... amazing :O

I remember the good times when people thought I was good at smps, I take my hat off in front of you now :hatsoff:

Technically, though, shouldn't it be Crystalline H2O (meaning water, H[sub]2[/sub]O) instead of H20?

Thanks.

H20: I wondered about that, too. But the title tag in the original MIDI writes H20 (in hex 48 32 30), so I went with that.

btw: I still think you're good at smps. The songs you made for soniNeko are excellent renditions - Your version of Sunset Park 3 is my favourite one.

I'm a little ill this week (I caught a common cold somehow) and today I felt really bad.
So I was in the right mood of doing some sad tracks while sitting in the train home:
  • Tales of Phantasia: Be Absentminded (mid2smps, YM2612 + SN76489) (my favourite sad tune, btw)
  • Tales of Destiny: Missing You (mid2smps, YM2612 + SN76489)
EDIT 2012-06-29 08:41: I improved the vibrato effects a bit and updated the VGMs.

Maybe I'm biased because I love Rockman & Forte's OST (even though I hate Megaman games and I'll never play any of them, but that's another story), but I think your renditions are awesome, very nice work. They sound good AND accurate to the originals, you manage to amaze me every time you post something, you're incredible. My own Magic Man is nothing in comparison to those.

The Space Harrier theme is another well-known song which I like a lot, I think there are at least 4 or 5 smps renditions of it, but it's always good to listen to it.

That MGHZ is good too, but I'm not sure about some of the chords. Then again I know it's always hard to turn a "0004" into a 0603 and you have to use a lot of imagination in the arrangement. The 92 in the filename reveals that you indeed used the original version extracted from a Sonic Chaos ROM and not a pre-arranged midi file from vgmusic.

It's the week of the Sonic Hacking Contest 2012 and one of the partial-private entries was Sonic 2 Recreation, where I worked on the music.

Here are all the songs I ported: Once you finished downloading all the songs, you can use this playlist to listen to them all in game order.

Enjoy!
EDIT: Added Leaf Forest Beta

P.S.: Feedback is appreciated.
