Need help with ripping Sharp X68000 FM Instruments.

Post by SonicFan214 »

I need help ripping Sharp X68000 FM Instruments. I ripped a VGM file myself from Mi ni Ikuzo! Hedgehog (見に行くぞ!HEDGEHOG) using XM6 Pro-68k. I tried looking up tools for ripping Sharp X68000 FM Instruments and all the tools I found either didn't work or I couldn't understand how to use. I was so stumped that I decided to go here for help. Does anyone have any advice?

To answer your question you can use "OPN2 Bank Editor" which can import FM patches from .vgm, opm, syx etc.
However, since this tool is mainly designed for OPN2 and OPNA (YM2612 and 2608) instruments, your results may vary when you import OPM (YM2151) instruments due to differences between them.
Hence, some vgm files may not import all instruments used correctly, I used ripped X68K vgms via XM6 2.05 to test this.

You can even convert your bank to a opm file to use it with the "VOPM" VST on FL Studio or to a ".wopn" file if you're willing to playback midi files with a player that the developer has also made.

I built this functionality into my cmd line scope trigger tool, since the bank tool editors weren't working consistently for me. It outputs all patches into a ym2608 Tone Editor .bank file (https://github.com/rerrahkr/YM2608-Tone-Editor ) which can then be converted to many formats using that program. The format doesn't support YM2151 features, but it'll append dt2 values to the patch name if dt2 is in use (LFO probably won't work though)
