Adding an external link rule for new packs

Post by vampirefrog »

I was thinking it would be a good idea that there should be a few external links in each pack description, such as vgmdb link, links to game databases like mobygames and giantbomb. As many links as possible.

Later, I can make the packs importer read some info from those links.

Long links can be shortened with an URL shortener, preferrably goo.gl.

What do you guys think?

For what it's worth, I don't think url shorteners are a good idea. I never click those goo.gl or bit.ly or whatever because you can't really know where they point to without using special tricks. Personally, they give me the idea of something very unprofessional whenever I see them on any website. But maybe that's just me.

sure, but the packs text files have a 40 column limit, and URLs are sometimes are long. I could implement a vgmrips shortener too, but I don't think it's really a problem.

Fair enough. Fortunately, goo.gl provides not one but three ways to see the destination URL, and they're not that bad:
  1. http://goo.gl/5n6zDY+
  2. http://goo.gl/5n6zDY.info
  3. http://goo.gl/info/5n6zDY
I'd recommend to implement any of them, if needed.

I would prefer that URL shorteners aren't used. (I agree with Tom.)
