Are midi tracks stripped from .vgm ? (X68000)

Post by crumby »

Hello,

I have used Hoot (with success) to play "Gradius II" soundtrack from X68000 in FM+MT32 mode.

And now i just discovered the .vgm extension. (I seems i have been living in a cave for the last decade)
Are the midi tracks/data still in the .vgm files or are they stripped ?

I mean, would that kind of playback be possible with the foo_gep + foo_midi plugins ? (if implemented some day)

VGM does not record MIDI events, nor does VGM files contain the original sequence data (whether they be MIDI or any other format).

The standalone version of munt can record MIDI files. However keep in mind that MT-32 isn't GM compatible, so it will sound wrong in any other MIDI player except Munt (or a real MT-32)

Thanks.
So some kind of specific foobar plugin (or player), would need to read synchronously the .vgm along with his .mid(mt32) counterpart.
