Looks great now! Would you mind updating the PC-98 PC-88 version as well? (The FM77AV version's screenshot is good.)

I guess you meant PC-88VA version (this is already the PC98 version). Anyway, the scanlines are part of the game itself: This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaTodCSFELA) shows that it's a feature of this version, compared to PC-88VA version of R-Type. The screenshot was printed directly from Eternal Grafx, as MAME / MESS emulation of PC-88VA boots nothing at all.
