I'm curious as to why this was done in M1 vs. MAME? Especially since it's deprecated for submissions.

When I first decided to log this game, I was only doing it for personal use and was only aware of M1/Bridge M1. M1 allowed scripts to log each track at specific lengths making it easier to automate. When I found that some tracks did not play in M1 and others the alternate tracks could not be accessed (my post in the General Disc forum), so I researched and found out about MAME VGM. By that time I had already logged the majority of tracks and was too lazy to go back and re-log them with MAME VGM. If it is imperative, I can re-log them.

There's a way you can use script to toggle debug commands in MAME. I've worked on Marble Madness II which uses the same audio board, JSAIII, so you could edit this script to tap into it and play the music.

However, I was told by Valley Bell that M1 is actually closer to PCB recordings than MAME so if that's the case then I don't have any qualms except for the inclusion of sound effects in the pack. I would include only jingles like the Credit sound. Also, you should remove " - Atari Games" and "Generated By" in the tags then add them to the text file.

Thank you for that script, I will look into modifying it. I think M1 added the "Generated By" in the notes section, I hadn't thought about removing it but I can.

We usually prefer MAME for logging, because it is considered more accurate than M1, which is almost 20 years old now. For that reason, M1 is on our "don't use" list currently.
However, if there is the case that M1 has a more correct tempo (compared to the PCB) than MAME, I think that ripping with M1 is okay.

I myself can not verify it, but if you say that you have the PCB and the music tempo in M1 is closer to that than the music tempo from MAME 0.248, then feel free to use M1.
If not, then please use MAME for VGM logging.

WRT the tempo difference on some tracks, neither M1 nor MAME match my PCB; if you listen to the Level music then the Level Complete music you can hear a clear difference.
