VGMToolbox

From vgmrips

VGMToolbox is a program created by snakemeat for the convenience of Halley's Comet Software users. It has many more useful features for rippers of games beyond the scope of VGMRips, and even within it (see below). The current version at the time of this writing is r1040, like the tax form.

This program also has a forum topic.

Note: If you use VGMToolbox to tag, I recommend making 7z backups of your VGM logs beforehand and closing/reopening the program between VGM sets. Users have encountered (but so far, not been able to repeat) strange bugs, such as eating VGMs; making them not-scannable by vgmlpfnd; and other such bizarrities. These bugs seem rare, but if you can replicate one and report it to us, you'll have many thanks.

Some of the Useful Features

Misc Tools -> VGM -> VGM Tag Editor
Self-explanatory.
Examine/Exploration Tools -> Checksum Calculator/Dupe Finder
With the "VGMToolbox method" option checked, you can find out if the data of VGMs (or any music file?) are identical even if their tags are not.
Compression Tools -> gzip
You might find it more convenient than other methods like 7zip or the original GZip program. But please note that if you use this tool to gzip VGMs, you must rename the files to use the VGZ extension yourself. Otherwise, they won't work.

Editing Tags

The Tag Editor, with filled fields describing the intended contents.

Uncheck the checkboxes next to each VGM field/entry to make VGMToolbox not write to those fields when others are being updated. In other words, field data for unchecked fields won't be touched. To clear a field, you must leave it checked but empty the textbox.

By selecting multiple VGMs in the Source Files list, you can change all of their GD3 tags to use the checked fields you have entered. Click and drag can de/select many VGMs at once. Use Ctrl to de/select VGMs not next to each other, including with click+drag.

You can edit each field by hand, even the two with drop-down lists. Note that when you use the drop-down lists for the Systems, the other one is not automatically set for you. Only VGMTool and vgm_tag can do that.
