Dumping parts from VGM files

Post by mybandequalsme »

Trying to make an arrangement of Raging Decide from ESP Ra.De. Usually what I do with VGM files is I use a program (like Multidumper) to export all the channels to WAV files and then transcribe them into MIDI. With this game however, It only dumps to one channel (the full one). Is there anyway to extract individuals channels if only one channel has audio? Thanks.

I'm afraid that "Cave 68000" arcade games just have prerecorded PCM streams of the music and use the YMZ sound chip to play those back.
So far I've seen this with games that use the YMZ280 and OKIM6295. Some later NeoGeo games do this with the YM2610 as well.

Most of such packs have a note in the text file that goes like "the game uses PCM streams, so seeking does not work properly". ESP Ra.De. seems to be one of the few packs that don't have the note.

I'm afraid that there is nothing you can do for this game, because individual channels don't exist.
