Chat
You can join our IRC channel at irc.digibase.ca #vgmrips.
Chat box
The chat box on the forum and the packs pages is connected to an IRC bot, which relays your messages to the IRC channel and vice versa.
If you have issues with, or feedback about, the Chat box, you can post it in the chat box thread.
Project2612
Since the Project2612 IRC server is no longer up, you can talk to the VGM community on the channel mentioned above.
How to connect using an IRC client?
We will use Pidgin since most Operating Systems can run it.
When you first run Pidgin, it will automatically ask you to make an account. Select Add, then pick a Username and change the following information to match:
- Protocol
- IRC
- Server
- irc.digibase.ca
- Optional change, for secure IRC connection
- In the Advanced tab, check the "Use SSL" checkbox and change Port to say 6697
Once you are connected, a.k.a. "signed on" (Pidgin will say you are Available), read the Pidgin IRC Help sections How do I join a channel? and Can I automatically join channels on login? to learn how to connect and autoconnect to the #vgmrips channel. (Or you can read below to learn how to add a plugin with a more intuitive way to autoconnect.)
Optional IRC Plugins
You may wish to use the IRC Helper and IRC More plugins to improve IRC integration.
- To add them on Windows, use 7zip to unzip the Purple Plugin Pack into
C:\Program Files\Purple. - On Ubuntu Linuxes, use sudo apt-get purple-plugin-pack to install the bundle.
- Once you have added the Plugin Pack, restart Pidgin and open Tools → Plugins to enable the IRC Plugins (and any others you wish) via their checkboxes.
- IRC Helper will now suppress useless messages.
- You can now edit your irc.digibase.ca account to change further options in the Advanced tab. For instance, you can add #vgmrips to "Auto-Join Channels".
