NEZPlay

From vgmrips

NEZplug is a plugin that plays .kss (KSCC/KSSX), .hes, .nsf, .ay, .gbr, .gbs, .gb (from gbs2gb), .nsd, and .sgc files. NEZPlay is a standalone version which you can use to log VGMs from these files.

To make NEZPlay make VGM logs, find nezplay.ini in its folder, then open that file in a text editor like Notepad. You see this line:

VGMLogging=0

Change the 0 to a 1, and save this file. (You shouldn't need to touch the other settings for logging.)

The VGMs will be put in the same folder as the source file, whether it's NSF, GBS, or NOA. Even if you move that file while recording, nothing will change (since NEZPlug has already fully loaded it).

Each VGM will be named something like Source File's Name_##.vgm. ## is the track's number in the source file, starting from 01. (Internally the track position actually starts from zero.) As you go forward, new VGMs are created - and if you go back, existing VGMs are overwritten unless you've stopped playback.

What Do These Buttons Do

  • V7 means Open. (It does resemble an opened file folder.) This lets you look through your files to choose a source file in NEZPlug's folder or elsewhere. You can also just drag and drop a file on the main window.
  • |> means Play. Whenever you press it, song playback restarts from the beginning. This will also replace any existing VGM matching that slot with a new file.
  • [] means Stop. As you've guessed, it stops playback; when playback stops, so does the log. While playback is stopped, you can safely navigate over tracks you've already recorded without replacing the VGMs already made.
  • << and >> go backwards and forwards in the source file. If playback is ongoing, the currently-logging VGM stops and a new log begins for the track navigated to. If not, no new logs will be created until the next time you hit Play.
  • The buttons that say <]- and <]+ adjust the volume. You shouldn't need them.
  • The remaining buttons are not needed for VGM recording, but you can poke them and find out what they do if you want.

Once you've finished Logging VGMs, proceed to Trimming VGMs as usual.
