Setting up Neko Project 2 with Textractor
If you are trying to log PC-98 games and have trouble understanding the Japanese menues, having the possibility to quickly translate everything to English can be useful.
"Textractor" is a tool that can hook into various programs and dump the text. It also has a plugin to automatically translate the dumped text. So using Textractor in combination with Neko Project 21/W can make it easier to navigate through the games.
Prequisites
You need:
- Neko Project 21/W ver0.86 from the Neko Project 21/W home page (other NP2 forks will probably not work)
- Textractor from its GitHub Releases page
Setting up Neko Project 21/W
- start
np21w.exe
and close it again, so thatnp21w.ini
is written - edit
np21w.ini
and insert the (hidden) optionUSETHOOK=true
to enable support for text hooks - optional: insert the option
STATSAVE=true
to enable the save state menu
[NekoProject21]
+STATSAVE=true
+USETHOOK=true
WindposX=0
WindposY=0
Win_Snap=true
Setting up Textractor
- start
np21w.exe
again - start
Textractor.exe
- in Textractor, click "Attach to game" and select
np21w.exe
- click "Add hook" and type
HQ4@0:kernel32.dll:lstrlenW
- after clicking the "OK" button, it should print
Textractor: inserting hook: UserHook#
- make the game running in NP2 load some text (e.g. load a menu or something)
- In the drop-down list at the top, go through each of the "UserHook#" entries until you found the correct one.
It is often the last hook from the list. (W:XXXX:YYYYYYYY:ZZZZZZ:0: UserHook# (HQ4@0:kernel32.dll:lstrlenW)
) - It should now capture most of the text from NP21/W.
- In the dialog of the Google Translate plugin, you should adjust the language settings to:
- Translate to: English
- Translate from: Japanese
