The Atari STE is a extension of the Atari ST line. It feature some new hardware over the old Atari ST models.

In addition to YM2149, a DMA sound chip called LMC1992 by National Semiconductors is available. This sound chip allows the STE to play PCM sounds.

As long has major flaws in MAME's Atari ST emulation, is unknown when Atari ST (and their variants) will be fully functional to log VGM output from their games. Is unknown if LMC1992 would be added at the VGM format in future.
