NOTE: This game's title is stylized as
"Block Out" on the logo, but "Blockout"
everywhere else (in every version).
California Dreams' jab at a Tetris clone made
the playfield 3D like the official Welltris...
but unlike Welltris, the pieces were 3D as
well! It was ported to the popular computers of
the era, as well as the Genesis / Mega Drive
and the Atari Lynx, but it also had an arcade
release by Technos that stands out in two ways.
The first, which is the natural focus of this
pack, is an exclusive synth soundtrack that
thoroughly trounces the soundtracks of every
other port without a fight. The other is the
Block Master, a floating head that taunts and
beckons you, who is enough of a standout
element for the time to also be featured in
this pack.
Sadly, there are no credits in the game, even
in unused text, so we may never know who was
responsible for either of them. The only clue
to the identity of the audio department is a
mention of "Studio Loaple" in the audio CPU,
but this is more likely the sound system's
programming team, not the composing team.
On that note, also included are what appear
to be earlier versions of BGM 1 and 4 left
in the music data.
Enjoy!
