At long last, that third VGM set I said I'd do!
I've loved World of Illusion since I was
little, so of course I jumped on the beta
version and its music. I'll keep my commentary
here relevant only to the music, of course.

There was no reason why this should have taken
me so long. When I finally got around to
trimming, finishing the whole set took me all
of five hours (with interruptions). I even had
it easy because I could look at the final music
to get an idea of how long each track's loop
duration should be! That's why I have earned
this trophy for utmost procrastination, which I
can't display because it hasn't been made yet.

I had a dilema as to the tagging, and
ultimately decided on lifting the tags
wholesale from TyBO's set (hope he doesn't
mind!) so Japanese tags would be retained,
adding "Beta" to the title, and removing all
but the year from the date. Of course, I
couldn't add "Beta" to the Japanese title since
I am ignorant of the language... And it feels
like I should remove the year because, being a
beta, this game was unreleased, but I don't
think that's correct. This was how the Sonic 2
Beta set did it, so...

As with Marsupilami, I have endeavored to
retain leading silence for tracks that have it,
these being Story and 4-2.

It sounds like Story loops incorrectly, but
that's how it is in the game...

Usually, I like beta music just as much as, if
not more than, final music. But most of the
tracks here... really do sound primitive and
unpolished, as opposed to a different but
equally complete tune. I guess that's how beta
music should be, but this is my first time
encountering some like that.

Of course, that's not necessarily a bad thing!
Primitive in comparision as it is, I do like
4-1 just as much as the final. And, for some
reason, I prefer 4-2 to the final. Most tracks
that definitely sound unfinished have their
charms, it's just that, somehow, I like the
finals more.

I hate 3-1 with a passion whether it's final or
beta. I know I should probably find it calming
or soothing, but I can't separate it from the
level in my mind.

Here's something that may blow your mind...
Doesn't 4-1 (beta or final) sound a bit like
4-1 from Castle of Illusion?
